My Best Friend

There are many people in life that influence the way that we think and the way that we act. Whether its a way that I say a word, or the way that I approach serving others, there have been many people that I can thank for making me the person I am today. It is rare that you find a person that influences you immensely and you can connect with at a deep friendship level. I am lucky because not only has my best friend helped shape who I am today, she is also my wife.

We were the kind of couple that didn’t talk about getting married until we were actually engaged. It made it feel as though getting married was a surreal thing. I definitely appreciated marriage and the raw commitment that it takes, but I didn’t yet understand it. And now that we are married we are beginning to unravel what it means to live together, as spouses, as roommates, and as best friends.

My wife is an incredible human being. There are days when I come home at the end of the day and am exhausted from all the things I did, and she still has 5 or 6 more hours of work to do. She complains and aches sometimes, but she still goes to work and she is probably the most cheerful person there.

Besides being a warrior in her job, she also cares about people in so many ways. She is always reminding me of how bad I am at staying in touch with people, because it comes a lot easier for her. My wife loves to show people and tell people how much they mean, and she cares about how people feel almost to a fault (she is the one feeling sad for the loser in the superbowl).

I have grown up with my best friend. We both have changed so much since we started dating each other in high school. She has definitely helped me become a better person. She has pushed me to move past my frustrations or to go forgive even when I didn’t want to.

I love that my best friend loves to travel and to do adventurous things with me. She loves to explore and see the euros and yet she loves being at home too. She makes home really feel like home too. From the way that she decorates to the way that she wants me to clean.

I am looking forward to many more years of learning and growing and becoming even deeper friends. I’m one of the luckiest guys in the world because I get to lay down at night next to my roommate, my co-traveler, my love, my wife, and my best friend.
