The James

poetry-wednesdays9

I lie between the rocks of the fall
Churning, swirling awaiting my fate
Trying to discern which direction to take
I muddy as I float by the banks
Of buildings and walls that surround me
I look up as people move by
Zooming across me or strolling along
They either completely ignore me
Or stare into my depths
Hoping to see something else
I fight through the obstacles put in my way
The dams and pillars of yesterday
And I finally reach the other side
I look back at the skyline above
And watch as the lights turn on
People emerge from their buildings
Life bustles forward as I float along
Hurling toward a mouth I cannot see
